Hmm… What to Write

To be completely honest, it can be extremely difficult to figure out something to write. Do I write about how much I wish we could have one spring without severe weather? Or do I write another story? Or even answer a prompt from Plinky? I could do something completely different and write about music. But what kind would I write about? It’s a conundrum.

The Demise of the Soap Opera

As a lot of you probably already know, yesterday it was announced that ABC has decided to cancel both All My Children and One Life to Live. AMC debuted in 1970 and OLTL in 1968. But what has caused this decline in soap operas? Is the rise in reality shows causing people to abandon the often out there plots of soaps? Would people actually prefer another talk show? Or is it because the women who used to watch soaps are now in the workforce? What do you think?

About This “Decade of Decline”

Watching the CBS Evening News this evening, I saw their story on the rise of teen drug and alcohol use after what they called the “decade of decline.” I quickly realized that they were talking about last decade. As in the 2000s. ‘Did we live in the same decade?’ I thought. I don’t have enough fingers and toes to count the number of times I heard classmates talking about drugs, alcohol, and how to combine the two. Some were even coming to school high. I guess the real difference is that we were better at covering it up, and what we didn’t manage to hide, the adults around us did. Just had to get that off my chest. Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming. One more thing: Don’t believe this decade of decline bullshit is the point of this post.

Just to Let You Know…

…that it’s probably going to be a little longer until I post my next piece. Sorry! But it’s part of a series (that I really hope people like!) and really need to make sure that I like the names, etc. (since I’m going to be typing them over and over!)! So, anyway, that’s what’s going on.
Also just a little reminder: comments (and constructive criticism) are a blogger’s bread and butter. 😉

True Friendship

Let’s try this again! 🙂

A wine glass flew past her head and shattered on the wall. Sophie looked down and saw the remains of a very nice dinner and half the dishes in the house. By the dinner table, her roommate, Katie and her boyfriend were screaming at each other. Sophie banged her umbrella on the table to get their attention.
“Now, will someone please tell me what’s going on?” Sophie asked calmly.
“This jackass,” Katie began, “is texting other women!”
“I told you, they’re just my friends.” Rob defended. “I don’t see what the problem is.”
“You don’t see the problem with them flirting with you?”
“They’re not flirting!”
“Look here asshole! When a woman sends you a text that says ‘Hey there, sexy stallion!’ they are…
“Okay, okay,” yelled Sophie, banging her umbrella again, “Rob, why don’t you leave for the night. You can continue this conversation when you both have a clearer head.
Rob grabbed his jacket from the hall closet and left.
“Do you want to order a pizza?” Sophie asked, since it was obvious Katie hadn’t ate.
“Sure,” Katie answered.

“Okay, okay, I have an idea” Katie said, “We take a shot every time he says ‘We were on a break!'”
“You’re on, Sophie replied, pouring two glasses from one of the myriad of alcoholic beverages on the coffee table.
By midnight, both women were completely plastered, and were attempting to climb the stairs to their rooms.
“Whoopise,” Katie cried, as she lost her balance and grabbed Sophie for support.
Sophie (who was slightly more sober than Katie) wrapped Katie’s arm around her shoulders and helped her to her bed.
“Sophie, do you think Rob and I will be okay?” Katie slurred.
“I honestly don’t know. Do you think you can forgive Rob for flirting with all those other women?” she responded, turning to look at Katie.
But Katie had already passed out.

Apologies

I know things have been slow on the posting front. You have my sincerest apologies. I’m working on two new pieces, one of which I hope to post in the next few days. Until then, please feel free to enjoy these nice freshly baked cookies! 🙂

Playing the Hero

He hears two voices all the time
One of them says “No! Don’t go there, don’t do that. ”
The other says “Yeah go ahead.”
So he goes ahead
Even though he knows he’s risking his life
Playing the hero
Even though he knows someone might die

Someone’s always after him
Trying to get to him
Harming his friends
Because he’s always
Playing the hero
Even though he knows someone might die

He’s heard the worst news of his life
He’s lost his father figure
He learned something awful
“Murder or be murdered”
This is the story of his life
But he’s still playing the hero
Even though he knows he might die
